Quasi Medieval/Fantasy Map Project

I have a personal map making project I'm woking on. The idea was to make a quasi-medieval world map that was zoomable and panable. The map is loosley based on a number of historical maps including a good number of mythological locations. I also referenced a number of fictional places and even went so far as to make up a few of my own locations ( I have a story setting in mind).

So far I have a rough working test up. There are a number of errors and I have issue with font sizes, but I hope to address them as time allows. I see this as more of an art project than an exercise in serious cartography. Anyway, if you are curious you can see it here:

The Offshore Mapping and Boundary Branch (MBB) of Minerals Management Service (MMS) are looking for a hard-working, ambitious person interested in advancement through progressive knowledge and experience. The full-performance level of this position is a GS-12!

If selected for this position you will have the opportunity to assist with the support of the development of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and provide technical support to Headquarters, the Geographer’s Office of the National Ocean Service (NOW), Coastal Service Center, Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC), private industry, and academia to name a few. You just don’t get the opportunity for this exposure everyday.

You will also have the opportunity to work with, digital Official Protraction Diagrams, Leasing Maps, Planning Area Maps, Five-year Plan graphics, Sand and Gravel Program, Alternative Energy initiatives, and a variety of special graphics and datasets. And you will assist with the development of metadata and associated standards to facilitate data collection, documentation, maintenance, access, and dissemination. And the opportunities keep coming! Metro Maps

I found an excellent book in a map store in London last week. It's called "Metro Maps", and it is basically a history of mapping the undergrounds and subways of every city in the world that has one. In this school of mapping, undergrounds are pictured schematically, with an eye on simplicity and proportion, and not necessarily geographically. Anyone who has had to navigate a subway system will appreciate this. I will scan in a few pages and put them in the "photo gallery".

The city of Crestview is currently located 12 km's east of Calgary alberta, Canada. The city has a rich and colorful past. Everything from the incorporation to the great depression, and from fires of 1950 to the urban decay. Everything that could possibly happen to a city has happened in Crestview (UFO's not yet!).

First post! Anyways, i created this tribe to see if anyone one else draws maps by means of computer or by hand.

This site will feature daily updates of my map projects as well as anouncements of future projects and contests.

User who join are encouraged to provide a link to their work and a description of how they got to drawing maps in the first place. Also include how you draw and your map style. any format or techinque are welcome.

Map Drawers unite! is not only for maps and related topics, you may also post your off topic comments or suggestions.

Just make it not to off topic (mature, dating, religious)!!

Feel free to give me a shout if you want to suggest any new contests or map project requests.
