I can't sem to use image tags here, oh well. So i guess i'll just set up a url that leads to my maps. Just copy and paste into the browser and you will arrive at my picture gallery. You will find my maps there, as well as a few extra gallery's.
you can go here: starrdarcy.mypicgallery.com/
feel free to post your comments. I will also be uploading more pictures to my tribe gallery soon. As well as a CrestView daily update thread.

Re: Map Art Gallery up and running
Sun, March 20, 2005 - 9:20 PMPrestville looks very good, very tight geometry and nice flow to the streets. I would be interested to see if you have a lot layout and street names (I love naming streets) -

Re: Map Art Gallery up and running
Mon, March 21, 2005 - 12:00 AMprestville is actually the next generation in mapping for me. If you take a look at CrestView and compare it to PrestVille, you won't notice very much EXCEPT the fact that the houses are square instead of round. This change was because i wanted more realism and scale equality.
In crestview and so many other cities before it, the houses where round and had lats of space between them. Also, the houses didn't mach with other objects when it came to scale (compare houses to parking lots and you will see). It is the fact while other objects of my city building have evolved, the houses havn't changed much, except color (used to red).
So the stuff you see in prestville is what will be slowly incorporated into my future cities (look at smallville bete). -

Re: Map Art Gallery up and running
Mon, March 21, 2005 - 12:22 PMMy imaginary cities are usually approached from a surveying and land line point of view. I like to lay out the lots and centerlines of the streets in a geometric pattern, with an eye towards precision. Looking at your brilliantly designed cities, you seem to be more of a "planner", whereas I look at it like a mathematical equation. If I can figure out a way to attach the PDF files, I'll send you two of my latest land development projects here in So Cal. Also, I have done a lot of exploring throughout Canada, and I can't halp noticing that your plans seem to look like a lot of suburbs of Calgary or Scarborough. Is there some kind of template that developers use in Canada? -

Re: Map Art Gallery up and running
Mon, March 21, 2005 - 1:21 PMMathamatical? surveying? Are you a city planer or o you work for a city? Sound like your into the serious business of mapping, i was at one point going to go down that path.
My plans are alot like Calgary, after all, CrestView is only 12 km's from Calgary and the sreet naming system are the same as Calgary.
I don't know of any template, however, i have seen similarities in the way developers and planner plan out their suburbs. I'll scan a few pics of a calgary map to give you comparison and you will see there is not much difference between my city and Calgary. -

Re: Map Art Gallery up and running
Mon, March 21, 2005 - 3:15 PMI am a land surveyor working for an engineering company near Palm Springs. Here in California, surveyors are allowed to do geometric design for streets and lots for housing tracts. I am involved with all aspects of land development, from the initial boundary survey to the layout design, to dealing with the various city planning departments to make sure that the tract conforms with zoning regulations and water and sewer capacity. I like having a hand in the whole project. In fact, I have been to Calgary several times, I love being up there (but not in winter!) so that look and design look very familiar, especially the street numbering system (although it's not very clever!) You can email me at tpappas@hackerengineering.com if you want some maps or other stuff.
